The Hibernian Catholic Benefit Society is a friendly society for the mutual assistance of members, offering a wide range of financial benefits and services.

Funeral Benefit

Members of the Hibernian Society can have the peace of mind of knowing that the cost towards their funeral is provided for in advance.

The Hibernians offer a number of funeral benefit tables, including one for aged members.

The Funeral Fund allows members to provide towards the costs of a funeral in advance. This has the advantage of avoiding any awkwardness or embarrassment of any relative being out of pocket over your funeral.

Contributions to the Fund

Contributions to the Funeral Fund are paid quarterly. The contribution rate depends on the table and age the member joins the fund, for example if a members joins Table 24 at 20 they pay $10-50 per quarter, whereas someone joining at age 50 pays $38-50 per quarter.

Single contributions are payable at the commencement of the funeral benefit under Table 25. Single contributions range from $1,887 for those aged 45 to $3,135 for those who join at 64.

Full details of all the funeral tables outlining the respective contribution rates is available on request.

Financial

The Funeral Fund receives a pro-rata share of the Society’s net investment income each year so from time to time surpluses arise in the fund. Funeral benefits may be increased by appropriation of those surpluses.

Other Information

Payment can be made promptly by the Society upon production of a death certificate. The Society has no debtors or creditors, only members. Benefits are not guaranteed by any person. A member has no call on the Society’s other funds for any funeral benefit. All members have equal rights under the rules.

Copies of the most recent investment statement and prospectus are available from the Society's office.
